India’s contribution to the development of humankind stands undisputed till date. Home to over 1.3 billion people, India boasts of some remarkable feats the world can be envious about. Still largely a developing nation, India has surpassed many developed nations in certain areas. From development in solar energy to the teachings of ancient Yoga and Ayurveda, here are ten things that will make every Indian feel proud.
1. High Altitude Mountain Warfare
India boasts of a commendable mountain warfare expertise. Sharing mountainous borders with its neighbours China and Pakistan made it necessary for India to have a mountain warfare training good enough to beat the world. Selected soldiers from the UK, Germany, and the US are sent to Indian Army’s High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir. It is regarded as one of the best warfare academies in the world.
2. Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) system
India developed its own Indian Remote Sensing satellite program in a bid to boost the country’s economy by aiding the fields of in the areas of agriculture, water resources, forestry and ecology, geology, water sheds, marine fisheries and coastal management. Previously India used to depend on the US for satellite. Owing to the sluggish pace of this process, over 2000 people died in the Odisha cyclone in 1999. With the system that is now in operation, the number could have been minimised by a fair margin.
3. Thorium-Based Nuclear Power
Thorium had been available to us since ages but it wasn’t used as a fuel because not many scientists thought of researching on it. The nuclear energy produced by means of Thorium lasts longer and is comparatively less radio toxic. However, the usage of Thorium became a reality only after a few Indian scientists stepped up and devised a method usable enough. The world has India to thank for protecting the Uranium deposits and reducing the radio toxic waste spread due to it.
4. Number Of Internet Users
Wonder why Facebook, Amazon, Google, and other Internet giants consider India a top priority? It is because we dominate the Internet world and are second only to China in the number of live Internet users. India has approximately 462,124,989 Internet users, much more than the number of users in US, Japan, and Russia where the rate of penetration is much higher than ours.
5. Solar-Powered Cochin Airport
We Indians have always strived hard to make this world a better place to live in. Just like we volunteered the use of Thorium, we’ve pioneered the usage of solar energy as well. Cochin International airport holds the distinction of being world’s first airport to be fully powered by solar energy. Following the footsteps of Cochin airport, the government of India is also aiming to make a few more airports solar-powered by 2022.
6. Yoga and Ayurveda
Yoga is now a globally acclaimed phenomenon that helps humans maintain their inner peace. Science is only proving the theories stated by the ancient gurus of India. Ayurveda too has become a globally accepted branch of medical science. Both of these ancient Indian culture have made India feel proud ever since human’s inception on earth.
7. First Asian Nation to Reach Mars’ Orbit
India’s Mars mission doesn’t need any second introduction. Founded by Vikram Sarabhai, ISRO has achieved a lot many feats already and the Mars mission has served as the cherry on the cake. India became the first Asian and the fourth country in the world to reach the Mars’ orbit. Also, India’s project costed just around Rs 450 crore which made it the cheapest successful Mars orbital mission.
8. Indian Army
The dialogues of Akshay Kumar in Namastey London were no piece of fiction. The Indian Army is the third largest army in the world. It comprises of 1,220,010 active personnel and 990,960 reserve personnel. The Indian Army also constitutes around 80% of the total defence personnel in India.
9. Indian IT sector
The only sector where jobs are somehow being generated has made India proud on the global front. The steady growth of the Indian IT sector has ensured that India become the second largest IT industry in the world. If the growth continues, we might possibly take over China in the coming years and sit proudly on the number one spot.
10. Indian Air Force
The most clinical military force of India, the Indian Air Force holds the title of the 4th most feared air force in the world. Its 1,820 air crafts in service, 905 Combat Planes, 595 Fighters and 310 Attackers make it a potent threat to any of the rivals.
