India has a great impression among all the countries in the world. Our country is known for its rich culture, wide range of religions, languages, beautiful landscape and stunning history. Having said that we’ve done our best to keep the things relevant for future and have modernized as per the demand of time.
But there are some misconceptions regarding India among foreigners which get busted when they visit the country. Have a look-
1. India is full of magicians and snake charmers
Yes, India has many people who claim to be magicians and snake charmers too, but they are just a small part of India’s population. When foreigners visit India they get surprised to see people with all kinds of interests and professions.
2. All Indians are vegetarians
People around the world have a big misconception that all people in India are vegetarian, but no, they notice that a huge section of the population has a wide variety of food choices which includes the non-vegetarian food too.
3. Cows are always seen roaming around the roads
Yes, there’s a huge number of people who worship cows in India and they cattle are indeed allowed to move freely. You will even see cows roaming around the roads but that’s not as common as many foreigners think. We do have separate shelters and places for cows.
4. Arranged marriage doesn’t work well
Many people around the world get surprised to see a couple living happily together, even though they were complete strangers before marriage. Arrey! our elders say, Pyaar to ho hi jaata hai 🙂
5. All Indian food is spicy
It’s clearly noticeable that Indians in different areas of the country have different taste buds. Even in a family, some people love to eat spicy food while others don’t like it.
6. All Indian accents are funny
Bollywood films take a lot of cinematic liberty and make things funny to entertain the audience. But there are hell lot of foreigners who think Indians speak in that way only.
Well, there are of course many languages in India and all languages have different accents, but these accents are cute IMO and not funny.
7. Indians wear only Kurta & Sari
Like religions and languages, India is a culturally diverse country. There are many people who wear all kind of clothes and go with the latest trends. Our Bollywood actors and designers are known to create new trends which set the benchmarks for future.
8. Indians are dark skinned
All the Indians are not dark skinned and all are not white skinned too.
9. Indian people are poor
No doubt, there’s a huge population which lives without proper employment, house & money, but not everyone is poor here. After Independence, there are people who have beaten the shackles of poverty and made their own way to the fortune.
10. Indians dance and sing all the time
Yes, we love to dance, sing and celebrate but we live a normal life most of the times. It’s just that when we celebrate we make sure everyone knows about it.
