No doubt, Sikhs are brave, lively, jolly, vibrant, cheery and full of enthusiasm. There is absolutely no denying the fact that they are warm, hospitable and friends of friends. At the same time, they will never let you feel low if you are in the company of a Sikh. That’s why, we have various examples in the history of India which depicts the tale of their valor, courage, heroism and never-say-die spirit.
However, it’s quite sad that people possess a lot of misconception or myths about Sikhs, the major cause of which is their untrue portrayal in movies and serials. Nevertheless, in this article, I’m going to tell you some very interesting facts about Sikhs which you’d find amazing and awesome!!
1. All Punjabis Are NOT SIKHS
People totally misinterpret Sikhs with Punjabis as all Punjabis are not Sikhs but almost all the Sikhs are Punjabi & there are very rare Sikhs who are not Punjabi.
2. 12 ‘O Clock Thing Is Pure Nonsense
In 17th century, India which was called Hindustan that time was ruled by Mughals who disliked Hindus and treated them as animals, Hindu women were just an object for them. That time Hindus got help from Sikhs and Sikhs were masters of midnight attacks. Slowly the word spread that Sikhs are invincible during midnight as some special powers are given to them to protect Religion, Nation and Humanity.
Today many people who dislike or want to make fun of Sikhs say “Sardar ji 12 baj gaye” in a term which means that at 12 they lose their senses and go mad. But for Sikhs, this is just a reminder that they have been bestowed with special powers to perform their duties and they have to protect all those who need their help as Baba Deep Singh and infinite Sikh warriors have done till now.
3. Not Every Sikh Drinks
It’s believed that Sikhs love to drink and they can consume alcohol at just any time of the day which is absolutely wrong because it’s not permitted in the “Sikhism” religion and numerous Sikhs do not even drink. Well, it doesn’t mean that no Sikh does, there are some who actually love to drink and you can’t judge all with one viewpoint.
4. Sikhs Deserve Respect, NOT Jokes
Quite naturally no one wants to be an object to be ridiculed, so are they! And if you take into consideration their contribution in just any field since ages, they really deserve respect.
5. All Sikhs Are Not Short-Tempered
As I already told you that they are jolly and happy-go-lucky people, those who think they are short-tempered or get angry soon and easily are completely wrong in their perception.
6. Hair & Sikhs Are Inseparable
It’s certainly true that Sikhism instructs Sikhs not to cut or shave their hair regardless of their length. In fact, long hair is not something irritating for them as for it’s for others; however, they are surely irritated with people asking them about the problem encountered in managing them.
7. Die-Hard Bhangra Lovers
Definitely they are but not every Sikh knows how to do it neither they do it all the time. However, when they are happy and do it whole-heartedly, there is simply no comparison of their energy and spark.
8. Sikhs ARE Smart & Intelligent
Since when people have started cracking jokes on Sardars and there have been things like Santa Banta jokes, Sikhs are considered to be fool and dumb as they are in jokes but let me tell you that it has got nothing to do with reality!! There are many examples of very sharp-minded Sikhs and Shivinder Singh is one of them.
9. Do You Know What Paaji Means?
Many of us use the word “Paaji” but don’t know what it actually means. Well, its meaning is ‘Elder Brother’.
10. They Are Full Of The Spirit Of Bravery And Courage
There is not the least doubt for it and I don’t need to mention why, do I?
