The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marin may have won the gold medal in the 31st Olympics held in Rio but India’s PV Sindhu, the second runner-up, has not only attained the silver medal but also won the hearts of fans and critics.

The first ever Indian woman to win a silver medal in Olympics, Sindhu firstly crashed on the court after losing the game.
However, shortly she managed her emotions and when Sindhu saw that Carolina’s eyes are filled with tears of happiness, she handled her like a true sportsperson.

The Spanish player was dominating in the first game by 14-10 but the Indian shuttler made a comeback and won the first game with 21-19 in 27 minutes. Despite the fact that there were many moments of tension in the game, neither of them spoiled the spirit of sports by misbehavior.
However, Carolina Marin won the next two games consecutively and thus won the gold medal. The Spanish shuttler seemed to be very aggressive during the match and after every point, she was shouting with excitement.
In the second game, Carolina had a good start and was heading by 4-0; she won the 22-minute game easily by 21-12. Sindhu was under a lot of pressure for the gold medal but she didn’t show any negative trait in her attitude.
In the third game which lasted for 31 minutes, Marin defeated Sindhu by 21-15. Till now, the Indian shuttler knew very well that now she would need to wait for the next 4 years to win a gold medal in Olympics.
In spite of this, there was no sign of disappointment or dejection on her face, neither did she possess any bad feeling for her opponent and this indeed is called true sportsman spirit.
Players achieve greatness not by winning or losing the game but by showing the true sportsman spirit even in the toughest times and sportspersons like Pullela Gopichand, Sachin Tendulkar and Lionel Messi have proved it!
