15 Awesome Movies Based On True Events

Upon a random conversation with my friend on how “filmy” it was to propose his girlfriend on road, he said me “People are inspired by Cinema, and Cinema is inspired by people”. Man, he spoke the truth. And, these “filmy” words of his inspired to write this article.

Actually, there are so many movies that are inspired from real life incidents and we absolutely loved them.

Here is a 15 movie which is my personal favorite and shortlisted from an endless list.

1. The Pursuit of Happyness

The Pursuit of Happyness was an American biographical drama film based on Chris Gardner’s nearly one-year struggle with homelessness.

2. Catch Me If You Can

Based on the life of Frank Abagnale, who, before his 19th birthday, successfully performed cons worth millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a Georgia doctor, and a Louisiana parish prosecutor.

3. Schindler’s List

The film is based on the life of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories.

4. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

Based on the true story of a faithful Akita Inu, dog who was loyal to his master, Professor Ueno, even after Ueno’s death.

5. American Gangster

Based on the true story of drug lord Frank Lucas and the detective who brought him down, both Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington star in this biography drama.
The crime world is not glorified, it is recognized in a film about the horrors and struggles of life as a heroin kingpin in Manhattan.

Russell Crowe plays John Forbes Nash, Jr. in this story about a real mathematical genius and his struggle to greatness. This movie gives us an up close look at what it is like to live with schizophrenia and the effect it has on your job, family and friends. Nash is incredibly brilliant, but also doesn’t always know what is real.

Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker star in this movie about the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, an African-American professor in 1935. Facing racial divides and stereotypes, Tolson formed the first student debate team for Wiley College in Texas, breaking barriers and challenging the Harvard debate team for the national championship.

8. 127 Hours

A film based on the real life experience of canyoneer Aron Ralston who was stuck while climbing and fought to survive. This movie depicts the climb and life-or-death experience when a rock crushes Aron’s arm and pins him in a cave.

9. 12 Years A Slave

Base on Solomon Northup, a New York State-born free African-American man who was kidnapped in Washington, D.C., in 1841 and sold into slavery. Northup worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for 12 years before his release. The movie was highly acclaimed.

10. Blood Diamond

A true story of the illicit diamond trade and its funding of the bloody civil war in Sierra Leone. The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in war zones and sold to finance conflicts, and thereby profit warlords and diamond companies across the world.

“The Blind Side” is based on the remarkable true story of Baltimore Ravens’ offensive left tackle Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron). Based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael “Big Mike” Oher. Michael has no idea who his father is and his mother is a drug addict.
