Just a few days back, there were reports about how a school boy killed his principal by shooting her to death. Now there is a news of 16-year-old student in Tamil Nadu hitting his headmaster with a kitchen knife.

The incident happened in a government-aided school in Tirupattur, Vellore district where a class XI student stabbed his headmaster with knife and gave him several abdominal injuries.

As per the reports in Times Of India, the boy had carried the knife from home to the school. After hitting the 53-year-old headmaster named R Babu, he fled from the spot but surrendered himself to the police at 8 PM.

Here’s how everything happened-

Babu is popular as a strict headmaster in the school. On Monday he stopped the students from leaving them and suggested them to prepare for the practical examination.

The 16-year-old boy who is a vocational student along with four other classmates refused to stay. This angered the headmaster and he tried to beat him. But before he could do that, the boy hit him with the knife.

“The headmaster spotted the boys in a classroom on the first floor,” the officer said. “His classmates bolted but the boy tried to hide and the headmaster caught him.”

Talking about the incident a teacher said-

“The boy had been constantly getting into trouble at school.”

Teachers and students took the headmaster to a government hospital and got him the emergency treatment. He was referred to the Sri Narayani Hospital in Sripuram, Vellore later.

The headmaster is out of danger right now but as per the doctors he was severely injured. The attack had pierced his intenstines and an immediate surgery had to be performed for him.

The teacher said it was the second attack on the headmaster by a student of the school. The teacher was quoted as saying-

“Another troublemaker tried to hack him to death two years ago,” he said. “Babu is a chemistry teacher and has been with the school for the past 27 years. He is strict with and made students stay back till 7pm ahead of board examinations.”

The educationists have taken the incident as alarming. S Rajesh Kanna, district president of Tamil Nadu Postgraduate Teachers’ Association said-

“Incidents like these are a cause for concern,” said “Academic and performance-based pressure can sometimes affect the student-teacher relationship and spiral out of control.”

He added-

“This has resulted in a growing number of instances of students attacking teachers or committing suicide.”
