Eve-teasing and harassment of girls on Indian roads is a pretty common incidents to happen but if all the girls show courage as Remi Rusha Sen has shown, then the incidents of eve-teasing can reduce to a great extent.

Remi, is a 25 yr old girl who is working as a senior executive in J W Marriott, Bengaluru. On Tuesday night, she was going back to her apartment which is at the distance of 150 metres from her workplace, it was 8:45 pm and as she crossed the road, an unknown jerk who was seated in the back seat of a moving autorickshaw tried to hold her backside and also tried to drop her skirt down.

Remi got panicked, shouted loudly as she turned back and saw that auto going towards Lavelle road. She immediately took another auto and followed the jerk, she made the autorickshaw stop in front of Navnit Motors on Lavelle road.

Till now, public started gathering and they were in full support of Remi as she was shouting at the jerk and he was asking for forgiveness, Remi also called her colleague, who in turn telephoned Cubbon Park Police, Remi told Mirror, “I called my F&B director, Jolly, and told him what happened. He then called the police and all of them rushed to the spot to help. There was a strong stench of alcohol emanating from the pervert, and he began pleading for mercy claiming he hailed from a good family, and was married with children, but I refused to listen.”

She went to Police station and registered an FIR against the accused, who was recognized as Ajmal Ahamed A M. Ajmal used to work as an autorickshaw driver whose vehicle was seized few months back due to some legal issues.

Police also got the visual proof from the CCTV set up at the exit gate of UB city, Ajmal was sent to prison after he was presented in front of Magistrate on Thursday.

Remi, who basically is from Kolkata but staying in Bengaluru from last 10 years has faced this type of incident for the first time, said, “The police were very cooperative and encouraging of my actions. They said most victims of eve-teasing did not stand up for themselves, whereas apprehending the pervert and filing a complaint would send out a strong message. Police are also collecting CCTV footage.”

She further added, “If this can happen to someone just crossing the road home from their workplace on a busy street like Vittal Mallya Road, I shudder to imagine what could happen anywhere else. I’m grateful that the police reacted instantly.”

Sandeep Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) was all praise for Remi as he said, “The victim showed great presence of mind in chasing him, and the accused was arrested immediately.”
