Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been home to some of the most iconic players in the IPL history. Over the years, a few cricketers not only began their journeys in the yellow jersey but also ended their IPL careers with the franchise, creating a full-circle legacy. From dependable performers to match-winners, these players left a lasting mark on the rich history of CSK.
Here’s a look at four such names — Suresh Raina, Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey. Let’s take a look at their memorable contributions to CSK.
1. Suresh Raina:
Affectionately known as “Mr. IPL”, Suresh Raina began his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings in 2008 and concluded it with the same franchise in 2021. He played more than 176 matches for CSK and amassed 4,687 runs at a strike rate near 137, including a century and numerous crucial fifties. Suresh Raina was instrumental in all four of CSK’s title-winning campaigns (2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021), cementing his legacy as a loyal and reliable performer.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin:
Ravichandran Ashwin launched his IPL journey with CSK in 2009 and, after stints with five other franchises, returned for a final season in 2025 before retiring from the league, completing a full-circle moment. In over 221 matches, he claimed 187 wickets with an economy rate of around 7.2, making him the fifth highest wicket-taker in the IPL history. For CSK alone, he played 106 games, picking up 97 scalps at an economy of 6.68. Based on these states, it won’t be wrong to call him a trusted weapon during CSK’s title runs.
3. Murali Vijay:
Murali Vijay made his IPL debut with CSK in 2009 and wrapped up his league career there in 2020, after spells with other teams. In total, he played 106 IPL matches, accumulating 2,619 runs at an average of about 26 and a strike rate near 122, featuring two centuries and 13 fifties. A highlight was his blistering 127 off 56 balls against Rajasthan Royals in 2010, a knock still remembered as one of the most explosive innings of CSK.
4. Michael Hussey:
The former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey donned the yellow jersey in CSK’s inaugural 2008 season, became the second ever centurion in the IPL history with a brilliant 116*, and after a year with Mumbai Indians, returned to conclude his IPL tenure with CSK in 2015. In the 2011 season, he scored 492 runs and was among the top run-getters while in 2013, he topped the charts with 733 runs, one of the highest seasonal tallies in the history of the tournament.
Well, all of them were just fantastic players, agree?
