Salman and YRF have earned 18 percent each that is Rs 84 crores each, isn’t it great? This was not an official word but a back-of-the-envelope calculation. This includes even sales of various rights such as CD, DVD, video on demand, digital, satellite and music.

Want to know the calculation?

Out of Rs 500 crores, which is the gross collection, Rs 106 Crore is the Entertainment Tax. This tax goes to the state’s pocket and the rates differ from state to state. So now after subtracting 106 crores, the collection stays 394 crores.

Distribution costs!

10 to 20 percent of the collections goes to the distributor i.e. YRF once again. Now due to Salman Khan’s star power and owing to ‘Sultan’ being a mega release, Yash Raj must have charged around 20 percent. Now out of 394 crores, 79 crores (20 percent) have gone to YRF! Then from 79 crores, YRF spent around 20 crores in advertising and print of the movie. This means, YRF has around 59 crores. However, the producer earnings aren’t included in this category.

After cutting 79 crores, what remains is 315 crores!

Exhibitors costs!

Apart from distribution costs, major chunk is earned by exhibitors of ‘Sultan’. This refers to the owners of cinema halls. In the 1st week, the owners earn around 50% of the net collection and in the 2nd week, they earn around 45%. This is minus the entertainment tax and the distributor cost. Now, from 315 crores, the exhibitors have minted around 157 crores in 2 weeks.

Other deals!

So what remains now? It is 158 crores! Now after deducting the production costs of YRF i.e. 70 crores, the profit is 88 crores. There are assumptions that 20 crores might have been added by non-theatrical deals which brings 108 crores. Now adding those distribution earnings of 59 crores (Mentioned in the distribution costs above), the total earning of Yash Raj Films is Rs 167 crores.

Salman’s earning!

As per reports, it is said that Salman had struck a Rs 100 Crore deal with YRF or 50% of total profit deal with YRF. In case it is 50% deal then it comes out to be Rs 83.5 Crore as Salman’s share.

Not a bad deal at all!
