8 Misconceptions About South Indians That Are Completely Ridiculous!

Stereotyping people is more of a habit for we Indians. If one member of a clan does something uncanny, we Indians go on to stereotype his whole clan for doing the same thing. We Indians don’t bother cross checking or understanding anyone. We love stereotyping and we’ll keep doing it no matter what.

South Indians have to bear with this the most. Even the vernacular name ‘Madrasi’ used for South Indians does not make any sense. Forget about the whole South India, even the people who live in Tamil Nadu are not all Madrasis. Just like the name given to south Indians, the whole general image of them for other fellow Indians is nothing more than a ridiculous misconception. Here is a list of 8 such misconceptions about South Indians that make no sense.

Many people believe that south Indians have a bitter feeling towards Hindi and are thus least bothered to learn it. Thus, saying that South Indians hate Hindi is completely a senseless claim.

South Indians Can’t Live Without Rice

Idli, Dosa, Sambar and what not? People stereotype South Indians for eating rice or anything made of rice. This misconception can be countered by the fact that there are a number of North Indian food shops running happily all across South India. Just like any other state, South Indians too have a difference in taste and love to have anything and everything that satisfies their different tastes.

A South Indian Man Wears Only Lungi

On a serious note, Bollywood should be charged for defaming South Indians. No South Indian keeps wearing a Lungi all the time. It is more of a casual dress for them and nothing else. South Indians don’t attend their offices wearing a Lungi all the time.

South Indians Are More Conservative

South Indians are supposed to live in a world of their own without any interference from any outsider. This myth can be shattered by the fact that most of the South Indians are outsiders. They shifted from some other states which shows the hostility of South Indians. They are open for almost anyone and everyone.

The general image of a South Indian for any other Indian will never have a fair handsome guy. South Indian beauties are fair enough to steal your heart away.

Sri Lankans Have A Connection With South India

Lord Rama was a north Indian and Ravana was a South Indian, this theory echoes in almost every Indian state. That theory also implies that people of South India consider Sri Lankans as their own countrymen. On the contrary, regular battles between Sri Lankans and South Indians keep cropping up every now and then which proves that this theory is nothing more than a misconception.

South Indians can speak every Dravidian language. That is what is wrong with most of the non-south-Indians. Every state has a different language and no Tamilian can speak Telugu. Telugu, Tamil and Kannada are as different as Marathi, Gujarati and Bengali.

Just like Lungi is for the South Indian men, Gajra (Flower Garlands) is for the ladies. Married South Indian ladies do not have any special theory for using a Gajra. Just for the sake of looking good, they use it. Forget about India, the whole world does it! Stereotyping South Indians for the same should be stopped asap.
