A 90-year-old widow, who is a cancer patient, has been raped by a man who was armed with a knife, the man barged into her house in Kadakkal near Kollam in south Kerala. The incident happened on September 14 but it came to light only on Wednesday.
The woman doesn’t have any children, she has been living alone for 20 years since the death of her husband. The woman too told the media that the crime was committed by someone who knew the layout of her house. The accused must be someone from that area. She said,
“The accused entered my house through the back door. This can be done only by someone who knows the house well. I pleaded with him not to harm me but he did not listen… I want the police to arrest the accused.”
A case has been registered under IPC section 377-D and 354. The police officials had taken the victim’s statement and are investigating the case. Speaking to the media, the Kollam Rural Superintendent of Police Ajitha Begum said,
“An FIR has been registered. We will probe the incident by speaking to her relatives and those who met her after the incident,” said Begum.”
According to the police, the accused barged into the house through the rear door at night and he had a knife. The accused assaulted the woman and then molested her. The woman also suffered injuries in the struggle.
The woman informed her relatives and neighbors about the sexual assault. They asked her to keep quiet and not to lodge any complaint.
Later a social worker of the area later informed the police of the incident. After a thorough medical checkup, Doctors have confirmed the sexual assault. State police chief Loknath Behra has instructed southern Kerala IG Manoj Abraham to form a special team to investigate the incident.
