While the ever body was celebrating World Cup matches, Delhi seemed to be doing what it has become synonymous with. No matter how much we advertise about Athithi Devo Bhava, but if this feeling doesn’t get imbibed within us, what is the use of such slogans? A 35 year old Nigerian women in Delhi was allegedly gang-raped by four men in a moving car in Delhi.
The women was taken to the LVS Hospital by the police when she was found unconscious near DND Toll Plaza near Mayur Vihar. According to the CCTV footage captured, the Nigerian women was picked up from a mall in South Delhi in Hyundai Accent car and later dropped off in East Delhi. While the guys are said to be of around 22-25 year old and raped her while covering the distance.
The Nigerian women was on tourist visa to India and had to face such a shameful act. The Delhi police have arrested the four men and also confiscated the car from Mayur Vihar.
The situation and safety issues in Delhi remains unperturbed even after mass protests and legal reforms. Two of the worst cases of rape have happened in recent past in Delhi and now this. It is just a week that Arvind Kejriwal took the seat as Chief Minister and such incident has occurred. What action will he take and what role will the police play will decide the fate of Nigerian women?
