Whatsapp is constantly dominating the global instant messenger market at present. If you’re going to ask 10 people -“Which instant messenger do you have installed on your phone?”, 7 out of 10 will say WhatsApp, the remaining 3 have both Hike and WhatsApp installed. The WhatsApp Vs Hike battle has been going for a while now, with WhatsApp having a big edge over its competitors. This desi messaging app Hike is a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Softbank. On 16 August 2016 Hike raised $175 million in a new round of funding led by Tencent and Foxconn. Hike Messenger now reached the valuation of $1.4 Billion.
WhatsApp has become the most famous and popular instant messenger in the world. The reason behind its success is its good promotion from the mouth of people. You will find most of your friends, contacts already on WhatsApp, but not on Hike. Similar to WhatsApp, Hike offers the basic social messaging means like photos, videos and audio files, Hike allows users to “nudge”, a feature used to ping the receiver. Hike supports chat themes, graphical stickers, PDF files and Office Files up to 100 MB. Like WhatsApp, Hike also offers free voice-calling over 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi across the globe in over 200 countries.
Kavin Bharti Mittal, son of Sunil Bharti Mittal, who’s the founder of Bharti Airtel has so many reasons to celebrate. His tech start-up Hike Messenger last month became the 10th Indian unicorn!
While most of the telecom companies are not happy with Jio’s entry in the market. But Sunil Mittal doesn’t think the same way, he’s happy with the tariff war. He said,
It’s probably the best thing that’s happened in the past four years,” said Mr Mittal — whose company launched in December 2012 — of the data price cuts triggered by Reliance’s Jio subsidiary. “As data becomes cheaper, faster, better, it definitely tilts the whole thing in our favour.”
While WhatsApp continues to dominate the market, Sunil Mittal believes Hike is the better product. He said,
Hike’s richer, more data-hungry set of offerings such as cartoon stickers, games and news updates will give it an advantage, as mobile data become more accessible in the country.
