We have movies like Pink which are trying to change the perception of a modern Indian woman and questioning the society’s mindset which is quick to label women as ‘fast and loose’. We all talk about woman empowerment, to promote the outgoing and independent woman, to give them the freedom to make their own choices! Everyone wants the gender equality.
But this cab driver’s response to a Mumbai girl only shows how distant we are from the vision of an India where society won’t judge you, where people can understand each other and promote love, not hate.
This Mumbai girl shared in her Facebook post how she was mistreated by the driver of a Kaali Peeli cab. The girl being an alert citizen asked the man to not spit on the road and make it dirty for pedestrians.
Instead of correcting his mistake, the driver started behaving in a horrendous manner and went on to give her a piece of his mind.
The girl saw the driver chewing gutka, she didn’t say anything at first as it was none of her business. But she knew he was going to spit on the road and this is when she told him not to spit on the road and make it dirty. He said, what’s
“A drop in the ocean”. And then Instead of apologizing for his mistake, he said, “Madam, main toh sirf road pe gandagi kar raha hoon. Aap toh samaaj mein gandagi karti hain. Aap ladko ke saath soti hai. (I’m just dirtying the roads, you spread dirt in the society by sleeping with guys)”
The driver made the statement when the cab reached the destination. The girl was getting down from the taxi which didn’t allow her to note the cab’s number.
