In past too, we have come across cases where students had to bear losses due to mistakes of board and even those who got very poor marks and hence failed the exams turned out to be toppers after reevaluation of answer sheets.
Once again, a similar case has happened and this time, a student of class 12th from Tonk, Rajasthan has to go through unfavorable situation but it cost her a great deal apart from mental trauma.
We are talking about Priyanka Sharma whose results of Senior Secondary Examination had been announced in the month of May. There was something odd in her result, as she got really good marks in every subject other than Political Science in which she scored just 27 marks. As of other subjects, Priyanka scored 97 in Hindi, 95 in English, 99 in geography and 89 in optional Hindi.

Unquestionably, this annoyed and shocked her to such an extent that she instantly sent it back for rechecking to the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE). The merit list was at last updated after more than 4 months and you won’t believe, her marks increased by 50%. After the latest result, she turned out to be one of the toppers of Rajasthan with the fourth highest marks in the state.
This is what she told TOI,
“Never in my life have I scored below 60% marks. I knew that something was wrong.”
This not only caused distress but also loss of whopping Rs. 1 lakh cash prize along with silver medal that all other toppers got from the RBSE.
Due to the error in evaluation, she was unable to get admission in BA geography (honours). In an angry tone, she said,
“Somebody should be held responsible for this grave mistake. I want all cash rewards which were given to someone else due to board’s mistake. I want my admission in geography subject.”
However, the RBSE informed her of the merit list being updated and her name’s inclusion in it.
According to her Principal, Girdhar Singh,
“Priyanka has gone through immense mental trauma due to this mistake of the board. It is a matter of shame that such a mistake deprived her of so many awards.”
Do you think it will be injustice with Priyanka to keep her deprived of all rewards even after the updated result? Should the RBSE take appropriate steps for her rights? Do let us know your views in the comments section below.
