Delhi Govt Starts Daily Langar For The Poor Affected By Cash Crunch! Politics Or Humanity?

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is always in news and this time, he and his government are making headlines for providing food for free to the poor who are suffering with the problem of cash crunch which is the result of demonetization. Some may call it a part of politics too but still no one can deny that it is a good move and will help many in the city.

This is what the Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted, “This move has been undertaken to provide the poor with three meals a day and save them from dying of hunger due to demonetization.”

Manish and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal have also slammed the Modi government for demonetization of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 old currency notes. This distribution of food is taking place at 10 places across Delhi and another AAP leader, Ashutosh has called it a “humanitarian” act.

Congrats Manish, this is not only job of the govt but also humanity. Dont stop till march-april as cash crunch likely to continue. https://t.co/RHObl9CWwk

This type of free food distribution is very common in Gurudwaras where it is called langar. Presently, long lines can be witnessed in Gurudwaras in some northern cities. In Delhi only, students are lining up in Gurudwaras for langar as they don’t have cash to buy food from college canteen or roadside stalls.

Neha Vaswani, a second-year literature student, said, “After paying our rents, we have run out of cash. No landlord is accepting cheques. Most of us come together with our books to the Gurudwara, and after lunch, we sit together and study here in the compound.”

Kashmir Singh, the manager of Moti Bagh Gurudwara, told that many students who live in PG accommodations have been eating in langar and “We are glad to help them”.

The demonetization was announced on Nov 8 by PM Modi and since then, common public has been suffering from the problem of cash crunch.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal called it a “huge scam” by the Modi government and he also alleged that the government had given prior information of demonetization to some of its leaders and key players. He also claimed that false reporting is being done on the matter of deposits made in bank.

Last month, Arvind Kejriwal raised this question, “In previous quarters, deposits in banks were negative. But in the July-to-September quarter, such large amounts were being deposited in the banks. Who did all this money belong to?”
