However, at present, Joanna is in police custody and facing trial in Copenhagen as a 12 month travel ban was imposed on her in June 2015, when she left the nation. She can be sentenced for 2 years if the law which stops the terrorists from Denmark to the Middle East comes into play.

Since she has returned Denmark, she has received many nasty warnings from the Islamist community, online as well as offline. ISIS made announcement of $1 million bounty on Joanna on various social media channels in many different languages.

This is what she wrote on Facebook after her passport was taken by the cops last year,

“How can I pose a threat to Denmark and other countries by being a soldier in an official army that Denmark trains and supports directly in the fight against [ISIS]?”

Joanna’s family roots are in Iranian Kurdistan and she was born in Ramadi, Iraq, in a refugee camp during the first Gulf war. Joanna’s family got asylum in Denmark when she was a kid.

She fought bravely in northern Syria along with Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and with Peshmerga forces in Iraq. Joanna wrote in one of her Facebook posts that she was inspired “to fight for women’s rights, for democracy – for the European values I learned as a Danish girl”.
