Ashwin Sundar, the professional car racer, and his wife burnt to death after his BMW hit a tree on the road and burst into flames. The tragic incident took place on Saturday morning at Santhome High Road, Chennai.
As per the police, the BMW got stuck between the wall and the tree which led to the couple getting trapped inside the car, as they were not able to open the doors. Fire broke out in the car which resulted in the horrifying death of the couple. Ashwin was on the driver’s seat with his wife Nivedhitha, who was a doctor in a private hospital.
A team of police officials from Adyar traffic investigation wing reached the spot after passersby informed the police control room, Chennai. The fire-fighters and rescue services officials from Mylapore also reached there and tried hard to put off the fire for 30 minutes but it was too late for Ashwin and his wife.

The dead bodies were recovered by Vanitha, the Adyar traffic investigation wing inspector, and her team after they opened the car. The bodies were later sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for the purpose of postmortem.
In the beginning, police was not able to recognize the couple but later on, they were identified because of the vehicle registration number. After investigating, police found out that the couple’s house was in Alapakkam near Porur and the accident took place when they were returning from their friend’s house which is at MRC Nagar in Raja Annamalaipuram.
The police officials also said that Ashwin was driving the car above the speed limit which was the reason for the accident. Some passersby also said that they tried to rescue the couple but failed due to the intense heat that was generated by the flames.

Ashwin was the national champion for 2012 & 2013 in LGB F4 category while in 2008, he was a part of German racing team Ma-Con Motorsport and took part in German Formula Volkswagen ADAC Championship.
Sadly, we won’t be able to see him racing anymore.
