Finally after 5 years, Supreme Court has granted justice to the Nirbhaya case (The brutal rape cum murder case that shook us). The Court has announced death sentence for 4 convicts Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh and Akshay Thakur, who had gang raped the 23 year old medical student while she was returning home from a movie.
In 2013, the decision was challenged in the trial court, which said that the convicts should be hanged. After this, the accused had appealed in the Supreme Court.
The court said, “The Nirbhaya rape-cum-murder case is rarest of rare case and we are compelled to give extreme punishment to ensure justice.”
Further, the court added that leniency can’t be granted to these convicts in any way because what they did was completely against humanity. Even Nirbhaya’s father was sure that death sentence will be given to them; he had complete faith in the judicial system and thankfully, the decision was given in favor of him.
This decision by Supreme Court has restored our faith in the judiciary; it has indeed set a great example and we seriously hope that the percentage of rape cases reduce after this.

With this judgement by Supreme court, we can at least say that judiciary is finally taking rape crime seriously.
Such people deserve a death penalty and we are happy that our judicial system is finally making sense.
