BJP’s Double Standards! Said “NO” To Beef Ban In Meghalaya & Twitter Is Slamming Them

There has been a huge uproar after the central government imposed a ban on the sale of cattle in market for the purpose of slaughtering, considering the fact that there are many communities in India that consider beef eating a part of their tradition.

India is a vast country with each state following different cultures, traditions and beliefs. We can see that in some states, cow is worshipped as mother while in several other states, it is considered just like any another animal.

Bachu Marak, the North Garo Hills district BJP president, has resigned from the party as he is not happy with the ban on cattle sale that has been imposed by the central government. He said,

“I cannot compromise on the sentiments of the Garos. As a Garo, it is my responsibility to protect the interest of my community. Beef eating is part of our culture and tradition. Imposition of BJP’s non-secular ideology on us is not acceptable.”

This is for the second time that a leader from Meghalaya has quit the party on the same grounds; however, the BJP unit of Meghalaya has called the reports false and malicious which say that the party wants to impose ban on cow slaughtering in the state. Nalin Kohli, the Meghalaya in-charge for BJP, has accused Congress of spreading false news and playing communal politics. Nalin Kohli stated,

“The dirty tricks department of the Congress is trying to communalise the agenda with a false and malicious untruth that the BJP wants to impose a beef ban on the state of Meghalaya. Nothing is farther from the truth since under our constitutional scheme; the central government cannot encroach on the area of what a state government has to decide.”

As far as the resignation of Bachu Marak is considered, Nalin says that his resignation is welcomed as the party is planning to take disciplinary actions against those who are conspiring to harm the prospects of the party in the elections next year.

Nalin has also said that BJP’s sole agenda for Meghalaya is “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” under the guidance of PM Modi and it will definitely bring out “rampant corruption, unfulfilled promises and lack of development” carried on by the Mukul Sangma government.

Twitter was quick to react over the matter and here are few selected tweets:
