A Big Blow For BJP After Beef Ban In Meghalaya! 5000 BJP Members Resign

As per The North East Today, more than 5,000 youth members of BJP have resigned from the party due to the controversial ban on the sale of cattle for slaughter purpose. This can be a very big setback for BJP, especially when the party is working very hard to establish itself in the north-eastern part of the country. The leader of BJP youth wing, Wilver Greham Danggo, is of the opinion that through this order, the party is trying to dominate many tribes and communities which eat beef.

The Central government issued new rules on May 26 which state that the cattle traders will need to provide an undertaking that the animals that are being sold at the market will be used only for agriculture and not for any other purpose.

Wilver feels that PM’s slogan “sabka saath sabka vikas” is not happening in reality, as many people have lost their lives till now because of cow vigilantes.

Bashailang Khongwir, the General Secretary of state BJP, said to PTI,

“More people are expected to resign from the party in the coming days, especially in the Garo Hills, for their anti-party activities.”

While on Tuesday, the BJP state-incharge Nalin Kohli rubbished the claims of ban on beef by BJP in Meghalaya and held Congress responsible for spreading false news.

“The BJP is hurting sentiments here on the beef issue. Tribal society has its own laws. The BJP is trying to push Hindutva.”

He also declared that he would organize a beef party on June 10 at Eden Bari in Tura.

However, in March only, BJP has made it clear that it has no plans of banning beef in the north-eastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram and there is no chance of going hard on slaughter houses as it happened in UP considering the fact that beef is a regular diet in these states. All these states are very important for BJP, as they are going for elections next year.

Some other states such as Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Kerala have also opposed the order by the Central government but it seems as if the situation in Meghalaya is grim for BJP in comparison to other states.
