The Narendra Modi government has brought a revolution in the tax regime of India by introducing Goods and Services Tax (GST). Earlier there were a number of taxes which were needed to be taken care of; however, from July 1 this year, there is only one tax in the country which people are required to pay. Despite rigorous efforts by the government and financial institutions, there is still a lot of confusion in the minds of businessmen and common public regarding CGST, SGST and IGST.
The government has kept various products and services in different tax brackets and GST will be shared by the central government and state government equally. For example, a product on which the GST is 18%, it includes 9% of Central GST (CGST) and 9% of State GST (SGST).
