10 Things Foreigners Should NOT Do In India

India is a great place to visit and there are many tourist attractions all around the country. However, what makes India different from other countries is that each state has its own language, culture and belief and this is what makes exploring India more interesting.

A huge number of tourists from foreign countries take a tour to India every year and we are listing out some points for them which they should not do in India:

1. Don’t wear scanty or revealing clothes:

The atmosphere in metro cities is changing but still it will be good for foreigners, especially ladies, to wear clothes which can cover them properly as India still has a very conservative society.

2. Don’t fall for high prices while shopping!

It’s always a good idea to bargain while shopping in India, as shopkeepers might cheat foreigners by demanding higher or even double price for products if they find potential customers. It will be better to go for shopping with a local friend.

3. Don’t wear shoes inside religious places:

There are many religious and holy places in India and a foreigner should remember to remove his/her shoes before entering one. In some houses also, shoes are removed outside so if you are visiting someone, it will be a nice gesture if you ask them whether to remove shoes outside or you can enter with shoes.

4. Don’t indulge in public display of affection:

A man and woman hugging or kissing each other may be a common thing in western countries but in India, it is not considered a good or decent practice and it will be a wise idea to avoid it here.

5. Don’t try to find logic in everything:

A foreigner may not find a logic in some belief of Indians but don’t question it as faith and belief are very near to the hearts of Indians. They don’t like someone questioning their faith, belief and above all, religion.

6. Don’t look for beef and pork!

If you like to eat beef or pork, India is not the place for you as cow is sacred for Hindus. It will be better to look for chicken and mutton dishes if you are non-vegetarian.

7. Don’t give money to beggars!

Unfortunately, there are many beggars in India and they tend to surround foreigners but you should avoid helping them because if you help one, all will start following you. At least, don’t give them money; instead, you can give biscuit, chips or any edible stuff.

8. Don’t be afraid of crowd:

We are the second most populous country of the world and you will find people everywhere, so don’t be afraid and keep calm.

9. Don’t travel in night:

Foreigners may not be acquainted with places and areas properly, so they should avoid travelling in night, especially women. What’s more, safety becomes a greater concern at night in India.

The trend is changing in metro cities but still calling older people by their names should be avoided and uncle or aunty should be used in place of name. Indians consider it as disrespect if a younger person calls them by name.
