Location and Temperature of Drass
We are talking about Drass which is a small township situated about 60 km away from Kargil, on the road to Srinagar. Popularly known as ‘The Gateway to Ladakh’, Drass is situated at a height of 3230 meters ie 10,990 feet above sea level.
It is said that during winters, the mercury slips down heavily and temperature reaches to a point as low as -45 degree celsius.
People in Drass
Drass provides a home to 1021 people who live there despite all kind of problems like low temperature and snow storms. People living there are known as Dards and Baltis and believe in Islam and Buddhism.
Tourism
Drass is a nice centre of attraction for tourists who visit surrounding areas for vacations. Manman Top, Chorkiat Forest, Tiger Hill are few of the worth seeing places.
Due to the vulnerable area, there’s a strong army presence there but still the beauty of Drass continues to attract the tourists towards it.
