In our society, everyone salutes the rising sun. The beautiful gets more beautiful, the rich gets richer and the ashamed one has is made to feel even more ashamed. If their own misery is not enough, then society judgement completes the task of bringing them down every second and every day.
But the sun has to rise some day and it rises for all. The real power holders may not be of much help for the slum people in Mumbai but the locals have got a great help from a non-profit initiative named “Chal Rang De”.
This initiative has done a great task of painting and colouring the dirty walls of Mumbai, Ghatkopar’s Asalpha Village. Now as you walk through the streets of Asalpha it doesn’t look dark and gloomy but a colourful and vibrant area that’s as attractive as the village Positano of India.
Almost 750 volunteers took part in the initiative and coloured almost 175 walls of the street.
As per the founder of initiative Dedeepya Reddy, their next target is a Bandra slum known as Tabela.
Team member Sumitro Sircar says they are also toying with the idea of revamping hospitals, jails and railway stations through artwork.
Meanwhile, at Asalpha, the exteriors are becoming as clean as the interiors.
Surekha Gade says-
“Earlier, men used to routinely spit paan outside our door on their way up or down but now, they’ve stopped spitting because of the paint.”
