The Indian cricket team has won the first test match of the 2-match series against Bangladesh and it will certainly like to win the second test match as well in order to strengthen its chances of playing the finals of the World Test Championship 2021-23. India won the first test match by 188 runs and it won’t be wrong to say that the Indian team dominated the Bangla Tigers in all the segments of the game whether it is batting, bowling or fielding.

KL Rahul led the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma as the latter injured his thumb in the second ODI against Bangladesh and he had to return to Mumbai for getting treatment from a specialist. Many cricket fans were expecting that Rohit would return to lead the team in the second test match but as per reports, he won’t be available for the second test match which is going to played at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, starting from Dec 22.

It is further stated that Rohit would have managed to bat in the second test match but things can turn ugly if he again gets his thumb injured while fielding. The team management is in no mood to take any risk regarding the skipper as there are many important tours and series coming up in the future including the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

However, the news was taken in a good manner by many cricket fans as they slammed Rohit Sharma for his fitness levels and some even called him ‘Nofit Sharma’. There were many who stated that Rohit’s absence would have no effect on the team, in fact they suggested that he should take retirement from tests and T20Is because he is not able to handle the pressure of playing in all the three formats because of which he is also getting injured regularly. A number of others were annoyed with the fact that he takes rest after every series or tournament but still he is not able to take care of his fitness. Many cricket fans even went on to say that it is advantageous for team India that Rohit Sharma is unavailable because if he had played, the big question is which player would have been dropped, the two options would be Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill but both of them performed superbly in the first test match.

Here are selected reactions:

BCCI should change the Captain if Rohit fitness don’t allow him to play longer format U should have a new captain because if we qualify for Finals of WTC then how Rohit place will justify in team if he Missed so many match of wtc Cycle

India should start looking past Rohit in tests now, has been troubled by injuries/fitness issues a lot lately.Dont remember when was the last time he played a full test series

— Scott Richards (@cricketrscott) December 19, 2022

Better retire from test. He never has been a consistent candidate in red ball.

— shyam sundar (@shyamsundar21) December 19, 2022

He will be fit before IPL.
Till then he will be assessed before every match, to be declared not fit/not good enough to take risk/etc.

— Panvelian (@panvelian) December 19, 2022

Don't risk him in IPL also considering the WTC and World Cup.

Tbh Rohit Sharma currently has no space in the team as far as his consistency is considered.

Why doesn't he rule himself out from playing cricket anymore. Is he ever fit?

Thats ideal for him.
Especially after wtc he should play only ODIs.
3 formats khelne ki alag fitness demands hain usko pura karne ke chakkar mai wo injured ho raha hai isse achha minimum fitness pe strongest format khel le

— Tanmay Sharma (@TanmaySh18) December 19, 2022

After the Bangladesh tour, the Indian team will be playing 3 T20Is and the same number of ODIs against Sri Lanka at home, starting from 3rd January 2023.

Do you also feel that Rohit Sharma should take retirement from tests and T20Is and focus on ODIs? Let us know your opinion.
