The skipper of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma has led his team from front in the first test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which India has won by an innings and 132 runs. The match was played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, and Rohit Sharma played an important role in India’s win by scoring 120 runs in the first innings which helped his team in posting a total of 400 runs on the score board.

With this century, Rohit Sharma has become the first Indian cricketer to score a century as a skipper in all the three formats and fifth male cricketer in the history of the game. Not just this, with this century Rohit Sharma has surpassed Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar in terms of maximum centuries as an opener. While this is the sixth century of Rohit Sharma as an opener, both the former cricketers have 5 centuries each registered to their name.

However, there was a time when Rohit was not even a permanent member of the test squad but the former English cricketer Nasser Hussain was quite confident of his capabilities and after Rohit Sharma was dropped from the Indian squad in 2018 for the third test match against South Africa, Nasser Hussain made a tweet, “And two .. if Rohit Sharma is not a test match batsman then I have been watching a different Rohit Sharma over the last 5 years !!”

Ajinkya Rahane replaced Rohit Sharma in the third test match which was played at Wanderers and at that time, Hitman used to bat in the middle order and averaged 19.50.

In another tweet, Nasser Hussain states that India needs to stick with him rather than with stats, the team management should use their eyes and gut feeling. Here is what he tweeted, “No … you can’t be as talented as Rohit Sharma and not crack test cricket.. India needs to stick with him!! Don’t worry about the stats use your eyes and gut feeling..”

The fortunes of Rohit Sharma changed after he started playing as an opener and this tweet from Nasser Hussain has been proven correct as now he may lead his team in the finals of the World Test Championship 2021-23 if India manages to defeat Australia by 3-0 or 3-1.
