The Australian cricketer David Warner who has already quit the test and ODI formats in order to focus on his T20I career has recently hinted that he may say goodbye to the shortest format as well.
The Australian cricket team failed in whitewashing the 3-match T20I series against West Indies but managed to win the series by 2-1 as the visitors won the third and the final match which was played at Optus Stadium, Perth, by 37 runs.
The veteran left-handed batter David Warner was adjudged as the Player of the Series for his superb performance with the bat as he was the highest run scorer of the tournament with 173 runs in 3 matches and it included two fifties as well.
While speaking at the post-match presentation, David Warner stated that it was good to see the boys play. He added that he will be taking off after the New Zealand series and will have good time-off from the game before the IPL which will provide an opportunity to spend some quality time with family.
He further said that after that, he will get ready for the T20 World Cup. Talking about the match, he said that he was surprised that the opening bowler who was bowling at the speed of 145 plus km/hr was not trying to get him dismissed. He further said that boundaries aren’t too big in West Indies and he feels that he is truly done and it is time for the young cricketers to do the job.
As far as the match is concerned, the visitors won the toss and decided to bat first. West Indies put up a total of 220/6 with the help of sensational innings of Andre Russell (71 runs, 29 balls, 4 fours & 7 sixes) and Sherfane Rutherford (67 runs not out, 40 balls, 5 fours & 5 sixes).
In response, the Aussies were not able to counter the West Indian bowling and they could manage only 183/5 in their stipulated overs with David Warner being the highest scorer with 81 runs (49 balls, 9 fours & 3 sixes).
This was certainly David Warner’s last T20 series at home and he will surely like to lift the T20 World Cup trophy in his last World Cup.
