The IPL 2024 has started today (22 March 2024) with defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore clashing against each other at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Many times we have seen that comparisons have been drawn between the IPL and other cricket leagues but AB de Villiers is pretty certain when it comes to the biggest cricket league of the world.
While speaking at an event, AB de Villiers stated that the IPL is certainly the centerpiece of cricket as it has grown from strength to strength in the last few years. He added that the IPL is not just the biggest cricket league but it is also one of the biggest sports leagues of the world and this is really a big milestone that it has achieved in a short period.
The legendary South African cricketer further said that the performances of the players play a great role in making them household names, even some foreign players also become household names and they also get to know and understand the Indian culture which is really great. ABD said that the IPL is a great opportunity not just for the players but for the administrators and everyone else associated with the league and at the same time, fans also enjoy a lot.
The former Australian cricketer Brett Lee feels that the IPL has brought different cultures together. He said that when he played for Punjab Kings (earlier Kings XI Punjab), he saw how cricketers from different nations prepare. He added that the cricketers from different nations prepare in different manner and the IPL has brought the cricket nations closer.
