There is no denying the fact that in cricket, catches win matches and Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav proved the statement correct once again when he took an extraordinary catch of David Miller in the final match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
India played the final match against South Africa on 29th June at Kensington Oval, Barbados and won it by 7 runs after posting a total of 176/7 on the scoreboard. The final match was a nail-biting contest which kept tilting in the favour of both the teams but in the end, it was team India which managed to finish the game as the winner.
In the last over (20th) of the Proteas innings, they needed 16 runs to win the match and David Miller was on the strike. On the first ball of the last over, David Miller played an aerial shot on the full toss bowled by Hardik Pandya and it looked crossing the boundary comfortably but then Suryakumar Yadav managed to catch the ball. However, SKY felt that due to his momentum, he would cross the boundary so he threw ball in the air, cross the boundary, jumped back inside the ground and once again caught the ball to complete the catch.
David Miller was the last specialist batter of South Africa and with his dismissal, the chances of South Africa winning the match got bleak.
When Suryakumar Yadav was asked about the catch, he said that he doesn’t know what was going on in his mind at that time, what he could see was the World Cup flying in air and he caught it.
In 1983, the then skipper of the Indian team, Kapil Dev also took an exceptional match of Viv Richards in the final which paved the path of India’s win in the 1983 World Cup.

The current BCCI President Roger Binny was also a part of the 1983 World Cup winning squad and he strongly feels that Suryakumar Yadav’s catch is at par with the excellent effort which was made by Kapil Dev in 1983.
They both can easily be called great catches, what do you say?
