The young Indian cricket team led by Shubman Gill may have gone on the tour to Zimbabwe with VVS Laxman as their coach but the BCCI will soon announce the name of the new head coach.
The former head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended with the ODI World Cup 2023 but the board convinced him to continue till the T20 World Cup 2024 which he agreed to and it was certainly one of the best decisions of his life.
The Indian team won their second T20 World Cup trophy recently after defeating South Africa in the final match which was played at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
While addressing the mediapersons, the BCCI president Jay Shah praised Rahul Dravid for his immense contribution towards Indian cricket, first as a cricketer and then as an administrator because he headed the National Cricket Academy for 3 years and then he served as the head coach of the Indian team.
Jay Shah revealed the reason behind Rahul Dravid not being interested in extending his tenure now, he said that Rahul Dravid has family commitments to fulfill because of which he is leaving the job.
Jay Shah confirmed that the Indian team will have a new coach from the Sri Lankan tour but he didn’t reveal the name that has been finalized for this job. He said that the Cricket Advisory Committee has interviewed 2 candidates and after reaching Mumbai, the final decision will be announced.
Jay Shah also talked about transition as he said that the Indian team is already under transition with three senior cricketers (Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja) taking retirement and India’s bench strength is so strong that three teams can be sent for playing in three different tournaments.
As per the reports, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is almost finalized for the post of the new head coach and the BCCI will make the announcement in this regard soon.
