The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made a strong statement with his performance in the recently concluded 3-match ODI series against England. After struggling in the Test series against Australia, the 37 years old cricketer silenced his critics with a remarkable century in the second ODI. With pressure mounting on him, his composed innings reaffirmed his credentials as one of the most crucial players of the team. His efforts helped India secure a 3-0 series sweep against England.
The former Australian captain Michael Clarke has expressed confidence in Rohit’s ability to dominate the upcoming Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19 in Karachi. Michael Clarke believes that India has a strong chance of winning the tournament and he sees Rohit Sharma as the top run-scorer. He noted that it was reassuring to see Rohit Sharma return to form and emphasised that his contribution would be vital for India’s success in the competition. India is placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh, with their campaign set to begin against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
Apart from his appreciation for Rohit Sharma, Michael Clarke also shared his thoughts on the tournament’s potential leading wicket-taker. He placed his bet on England’s Jofra Archer, highlighting the fast bowler’s exceptional talent and ability to trouble batters. Despite his confidence in Jofra Archer’s bowling, Michael Clarke admitted that he does not see England performing particularly well in the Champions Trophy. England, competing in Group A, will face tough challenges from Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan.
Michael Clarke also weighed in on the Player of the Tournament discussion, selecting the Australian batter Travis Head for the honor. He commended Travis Head’s recent performances in the IPL and Australia’s Test series, noting that he had been in outstanding form. Although Michael Clarke believes Australia will make it to the final, he anticipates that they might fall short of lifting the trophy.
As the Champions Trophy draws near, Rohit Sharma’s resurgence has given Indian fans hope for a strong campaign. With backing from experts and his renewed confidence, the Indian captain will look to lead from the front and make a significant impact on the global stage.
