At just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become one of the most exciting young talents of Indian cricket. Signed for ₹1.10 crore by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 mega auction, the Bihar youngster stunned everyone with fearless batting. In seven matches, he scored 252 runs with a strike rate of over 200, smashing one century and one half-century, and even set a new record for the fastest century by an Indian in the IPL history.
After the league, he went on to shine for India’s U-19 team in England, further proving his potential at the international stage.
Vaibhav’s rapid rise has caught the attention of Ambati Rayudu who believes the teenager could soon play for the senior Indian team. Speaking on a podcast, Ambati Rayudu praised the left-hander’s extraordinary bat speed and advised that it must not be altered. He suggested that Vaibhav could learn from legends like Brian Lara, especially about controlling bat speed while defending and playing with soft hands, which would make him an even more complete batter.
Ambati Rayudu also cautioned that Vaibhav should not get distracted by too many opinions. He stressed that the young cricketer must focus on backing his own talent rather than listening to everyone’s advice. He even urged coaches not to overload him with unnecessary instructions, saying that the boy should be guided carefully without interference.
Highlighting his potential, Ambati Rayudu said that with the right guidance, Vaibhav could achieve extraordinary success. He also expressed confidence that Rahul Dravid’s presence as a mentor will be crucial in shaping the youngster’s career.
Apart from his IPL and U-19 achievements, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already played five first-class and six List A matches. His next big challenge will be in Australia, where he will represent India U-19 in three youth ODIs and two youth Tests starting September 21 in Brisbane.
