Alia Bhatt is not just one of the most successful actresses in Indian cinema today but she is also someone who has always balanced her professional achievements with her personal values. Known for her versatile performances and grounded personality, she has built a strong bond with her audience. That is why when a recent incident involving her private life came to light, it sparked a conversation that went far beyond stardom and wealth, touching on a basic right everyone deserves, i.e., privacy.
A few days ago, a video of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s newly constructed bungalow in Bandra went viral on social media. The video displayed the six-storey house in its entirety and quickly became the talk of the Internet. However, instead of admiration, it raised serious concerns for Alia who called the act a blatant invasion of privacy and a grave security risk.
On Tuesday, Alia released a detailed statement addressing the issue. She expressed her frustration over how the video had been recorded and shared without her consent.
While acknowledging that Mumbai is a city where personal and public spaces often overlap, she firmly argued that this does not give anyone the right to capture and circulate visuals of private residences. She explained that the house was still under construction and yet, multiple outlets had recorded and published images of it, disregarding her privacy. Alia reminded people that content created by violating someone’s personal space is not entertainment but a breach of trust and safety.
Alia also appealed to both the public and the media, urging people not to forward or promote such material if they come across it online and asked media houses to take down the videos immediately. To emphasize her point, she questioned how anyone would feel if the interiors of their homes were recorded and shared without permission, underlining that such behaviour should never be normalized.

The actress’s statement resonated strongly with her fans, many of whom supported her stance. Social media was filled with messages praising her courage in addressing the issue. Comments such as “privacy comes first always” and “privacy matters regardless of profession” highlighted how deeply the message connected with people. Several netizens even went as far as calling the act “unethical”.
The Bandra residence that sparked this controversy is no ordinary property. Estimated at around Rs 250 crore, the home is located in the upscale Pali Hill area. The land originally belonged to Ranbir Kapoor’s grandparents, Raj Kapoor and Krishna Raj Kapoor, before being passed down to Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in the 1980s. Construction of the new bungalow has been ongoing for years, with Ranbir, Alia and their daughter Raha often spotted visiting the site. Neetu Kapoor has also been a familiar face there, regularly photographed by the paparazzi during her visits.
While the family deals with this unwanted intrusion, both Ranbir and Alia are busy with upcoming projects. The couple will reunite on screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated film Love and War, marking their second collaboration after Brahmastra in 2022. Alia also has YRF’s Alpha lined up alongside Sharvari, while Ranbir is busy with Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of Ramayana.
Through this incident, Alia Bhatt has once again reminded everyone that behind the glamour of stardom lies an individual who deserves dignity, safety and privacy, just like anyone else.
