From humble beginnings to making a name for himself on the international stage, his journey reflects resilience and determination. Recently, Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on a spot in India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup in the UAE. Instead, he was named among the standby players, a decision influenced by team combinations and the return of Shubman Gill who not only made the cut but was also appointed vice-captain. This shuffle also pushed Sanju Samson further down the batting order. Despite this setback, Yashasvi Jaiswal has chosen not to dwell on it, saying that such calls are in the hands of selectors and all he can do is keep working hard until his opportunity comes again.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s T20I numbers already speak volumes about his promise. In 23 matches, he has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of over 164, making him one of the most exciting young batters in the format. His hunger to improve is evident in the way he speaks about his game, emphasising belief, patience and relentless effort as the cornerstones of his career.

One of his fondest memories so far has been scoring a century in front of his parents during the England tour, a moment he describes as deeply special. That series was largely successful for him, with two half-centuries and two hundreds, though he did falter at Lord’s with scores of 13 and zero.

His broader dream, however, remains clear — to help the Indian team win more World Cups, with the T20 triumph in 2024 already etched as a proud milestone. Most recently, he turned out for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy, scoring 4 and 64 across two innings, further underlining his commitment to keep pushing forward.
