India’s ninth Asia Cup triumph was followed by both – brilliance on the field and cheeky drama off it. After their five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the 2025 final, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Jitesh Sharma poked fun at Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed by mimicking his trademark celebration.

Standing near the boundary, the trio crossed their arms and shook their heads in Ahmed’s familiar “get out” gesture. Arshdeep later shared the clip on social media, where it quickly drew attention. Sanju Samson, who had scored 24 runs in the match, also appeared briefly in the video.

On the field, India’s win was a story of resilience after a shaky start. Chasing 147, the team slipped to 20 for three as Shaheen Shah Afridi and Faheem Ashraf removed Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill with smart variations. From that moment, Tilak Varma took charge with a composed innings that defined the final. His unbeaten 69 off 53 balls was built on two crucial partnerships – 57 with Sanju Samson and 60 with Shivam Dube, who smashed a quick 33 from 21 deliveries.

The turning point came in the 15th over when Tilak Varma punished Haris Rauf with a mix of power and precision, taking 17 runs through a straight drive and a fierce pull. Haris Rauf’s expensive spell ended with figures of none for 50 in under four overs, capped by a six from Tilak Varma in the final over before Rinku Singh struck the winning boundary.

Earlier in the evening, Pakistan looked well placed for a commanding total after an 84-run opening stand between Sahibzada Farhan who scored 57 and Fakhar Zaman who made 46. But from 113 for one, their innings collapsed dramatically. Kuldeep Yadav spearheaded the fightback with four wickets for 30 runs, dismantling the middle order. He was supported by Axar Patel, who took two for 26, and Varun Chakravarthy, who added two more for 30. The collapse ended with Pakistan getting bowled out for 146 in 19.1 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up the tail, taking two wickets and sending Haris Rauf off with a mocking “plane crash” gesture, further fueling the heated rivalry.

In the end, India’s mix of disciplined bowling, Tilak Varma’s composure, and moments of swagger both on and off the field secured yet another Asia Cup crown, ensuring the final will be remembered for both the cricket and the theatrics.
