Shatrughan Sinha, one of the most outspoken and charismatic stars of Bollywood, has always been known for his fearless opinions and larger-than-life persona. From his commanding performances in Kalicharan and Vishwanath to his successful political career, Shatrughan Sinha has lived a life under the spotlight. But beyond his powerful screen image lies a man who, by his own admission, has made mistakes, faced emotional turmoil and learned deeply from them.
In a rare moment of honesty, the veteran actor recently spoke about one of the most complex chapters of his personal life, being in love with two women at the same time. In a 2024 interview, Shatrughan Sinha revealed that during his early years in the film industry, he was romantically involved with actress Reena Roy even after marrying his wife Poonam Sinha.
Reflecting on that period, Shatrughan Sinha admitted that fame and glamour had overwhelmed him. Coming from Patna and suddenly being swept up in the glitz of Bollywood, he said it was easy to lose direction. He credited his wife Poonam for standing by him and helping him stay grounded through those turbulent times.
The actor recalled how emotionally exhausting it was to balance both the relationships. He explained that when a person is involved in two relationships, guilt becomes an unavoidable companion, feeling torn between affection and responsibility. That guilt, he said, took a heavy toll on him as he struggled to do right with everyone involved.
Shatrughan Sinha also expressed deep gratitude towards the women who had been part of his life, saying that each one contributed to his personal growth. Though he did not mention Reena Roy by name, his words reflected respect and maturity rather than regret.
His bond with Reena had begun during the making of Kalicharan in 1976 and continued through several other films such as Milan, Sangram, Sat Sri Akaal and Chor Ho To Aisa. Interestingly, he revealed that he was with Reena just hours before his marriage to Poonam, a fact that reportedly stunned many at the time.
Looking back, Shatrughan Sinha described that phase as trying to balance “multiple boats”, acknowledging the confusion and conflict that came with it. Through this candid confession, he offered a glimpse of the man behind the stardom, flawed, emotional, but ultimately introspective. Today, he credits his wife Poonam’s unwavering strength and patience for helping him evolve into a better version of himself.
Shatrughan Sinha is really lucky to have Poonam Sinha as his partner, what do you say?
