In the heat of the match, the Indian skipper briefly lost his cool with teammate Shivam Dube after a loose delivery cost the team a boundary at a crucial stage.
The incident took place at the end of the 12th over when Shivam Dube, bowling to Marcus Stoinis, delivered a short ball that was swatted away for four over backward point. The shot came after Shivam Dube had produced three good deliveries, including one that took a key wicket, following a six hit earlier in the over by Tim David. The over ended with mixed results, an important wicket but 11 runs conceded, leaving Suryakumar Yadav visibly frustrated. Cameras caught him shouting at Shivam Dube, venting his displeasure over the lapse in execution.
However, the moment soon passed and India regained control of the game. Australia, chasing 168, crumbled under pressure and were eventually bowled out for just 119 in 18.2 overs. Washington Sundar led the bowling attack with three wickets in just eight deliveries, while Axar Patel and Shivam Dube chipped in with two wickets each. The 48-run win gave India a 2-1 lead in the five-match series after the opening game had been washed out due to rain.
After the match, Shivam Dube remained calm when asked about the incident, focusing instead on the team’s well-executed plan. He explained that 167 was a strong total on that ground and praised India’s balanced bowling attack. He also pointed out that the team had prepared well for Australia’s aggressive batting, using the large side boundaries to their advantage.
Despite the brief on-field tension, the victory reinforced India’s dominance on the tour. With the final T20I set to take place at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, the team now carries both momentum and confidence, proof that even heated moments can end in triumph when teamwork and trust prevail.
