Age has never seemed like a limitation for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and his latest outing only reinforced that belief. Still just 14, the young batter produced a performance that turned heads across the cricketing world during Bihar’s opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi. What began as a promising innings soon transformed into a breathtaking display of power, confidence and composure well beyond his years.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reached his century in just 36 balls, setting the tone for an innings that refused to slow down. He continued attacking with fearless intent, punishing anything loose and forcing the bowlers onto the defensive. In no time, he raced to 150 in only 54 deliveries, a feat that saw him surpass a long-standing world record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket, previously held by South African great AB de Villiers. The achievement placed the teenager in elite company and underlined the scale of his talent.

As the innings progressed, the possibility of a historic double century loomed large. However, his remarkable stay at the crease ended on 190 in the 27th over, falling just short of that milestone. Even so, it marked his maiden List A century and one of the most explosive knocks the format has seen in recent years. He also came agonisingly close to equalling the fastest List A hundred by an Indian, missing the mark by a single delivery.

The numbers behind the innings were just as staggering as the milestones. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck 16 fours and 15 sixes, with the vast majority of his runs coming through boundaries alone, showcasing both clean hitting and remarkable timing.

This breakout performance arrived shortly after his stint with the India Under-19 team at the Asia Cup in the UAE, where the side finished runners-up. His tournament had its highs and lows, including a standout century against the hosts and a half-century against Malaysia, alongside quieter outings in pressure matches. Taken together, these experiences seem to be shaping a young cricketer unafraid of big moments and Wednesday’s knock may well be remembered as the day Vaibhav Sooryavanshi truly arrived on the national stage.
