Cricket has a way of producing heroes and heartbreaks on the same day, and the third round of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy was a perfect example of that unpredictability. Two players linked with Chennai Super Kings found themselves at the center of attention but for very different reasons.

While Maharashtra’s Ramakrishna Ghosh delivered a performance that will be remembered for years, Puducherry captain Aman Khan endured one of the toughest outings of his career. Both moments unfolded as the tournament continued to throw up dramatic stories.

Aman Khan and his Puducherry side had a rough day when they faced Jharkhand in Ahmedabad. Led by Kumar Kushagra, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 champions put on a dominant batting display, piling up a massive 368 for 7. Kushagra led from the front with a century, while Anukul Roy and Md Kounain Quraishi added quick runs at the end to push the total even higher.

For Aman Khan, it turned into a nightmare with the ball. He conceded 123 runs and ended up being the most expensive bowler of the match. In the process, he set an unwanted record for giving away the most runs in a men’s List A match, going past Arunachal’s Mibom Mosu, who had earlier conceded 116 runs against Bihar in the same tournament.

Chasing 369 was always going to be a steep task for Puducherry. They struggled from the start and were eventually bowled out for 235 in 41.4 overs, handing Jharkhand a commanding 133-run victory. The result made the contrast of the day even starker for Aman who was picked by CSK for Rs 40 lakh at the IPL 2026 mini auction last month.

While Aman’s day ended in disappointment, Ramakrishna Ghosh enjoyed a career-defining moment in Jaipur. The Maharashtra fast bowler picked up an outstanding seven wickets for 42 runs in 9.4 overs against Himachal Pradesh, becoming only the 12th player to take seven or more wickets in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Himachal were bowled out for 271, thanks largely to Ramakrishna Ghosh’s spell.

Ramakrishna Ghosh has started the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 in fine form, having already claimed three wickets each against Sikkim and Punjab, making him one of the standout performers of the tournament so far.

Bad day for Aman Khan!
