Rugen is a German Island in the Baltic Sea and what makes it different from the other islands is the presence of the Biggest Hotel of the World. The hotel is so big that its land area is three miles and it has 10000 bedrooms and amazing all the bedrooms face Sea.

There is more for you to get surprised, this hotel is almost 70 years old but the number of guests who have checked in this hotel is Zero. The reason is that this hotel which was named as Prora was constructed by Nazis between 1936 and 1939 on the orders of Hitler, this was the same time period when Hitler was planning for the war and the hotel project took the back seat and it is still unfinished.

1. Prora is built in the region of Prorer Wiek, a widespread bay between the Binz and Sassnitz regions. Prorer Wiek separates Baltic Sea from the lagoon of Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden.

2. The buildings are made in the area of 3 miles (5 Km) and its distance from the beach is 500 feet (150 meters).

3. Almost 9000 workers and all the major builder companies of Reich were involved when the Prora was being built.

4. When the World War II started in 1939, the construction of Prora was being halted and all the workers from this site were shifted to factories for making weapons.

5. There were eight housing blocks, a cinema and a theatre which were never completed and swimming pool and festive hall remained in planning only.

6. Many citizens of Hamburg took shelter in one of the housing blocks when the allied forces started the bombing.

7. East German Army started using Prora as a military outpost after the war, however after German reunification in 1990, the buildings have not been used since then.

8. Prora was a part of a German Program “Strength through Joy” (Kraft durch Freude), it is capable of accommodating nearly 20000 persons.

9. Prora was made keeping in mind the purpose of spreading Nazi Propaganda and providing enjoyment facilities for German workers.

10. Except a museum and a disco, it is an abandoned place.

11. Prora is also known as Colossus due to its huge structure.

12. Windows of hundreds of rooms have been vandalized by disruptive people.

13. The latest plan is develop Prora as a modern day resort and four of the five blocks have already been purchased by private investors.

14. The vision of new builders is to make hundreds of apartments with other amenities like swimming pool, sport halls, discos, hotels and cafes, so that a large number of visitors can be attracted.
