MS Dhoni may no longer walk out to bat in India colours but his presence in Indian cricket remains as strong as ever. From iconic finishes to calm leadership, Dhoni’s legacy continues to shape the game long after his international retirement.

Even after stepping away from competitive international cricket, Dhoni remains closely linked to the sport through systems designed to support former players. One such initiative is the pension scheme run by the Board of Control for Cricket in India which offers financial assistance to retired cricketers in recognition of their service to the game.
Under this long-running welfare programme, MS Dhoni receives a monthly pension of Rs 70,000.

This places him in the highest pension bracket reserved for former Test cricketers whose payouts were revised upward in recent years. Dhoni represented India in 90 Test matches, 350 One-Day Internationals and 98 T20 Internationals, building one of the most complete international careers in cricket history. His leadership peaked with India’s memorable World Cup triumph in 2011, a moment that still defines his legacy.

Several other Indian greats also fall into the same pension category. Legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid receive the same monthly amount, reflecting their long-standing contributions to Indian cricket. Other former stars receive different levels of support based on their playing careers, with figures like Yuvraj Singh (Rs. 60K) and Vinod Kambli (Rs. 30K) receiving adjusted pensions under the same scheme.

While the pension is a symbolic continuation of his cricketing journey, MS Dhoni’s financial standing extends far beyond it. Through endorsements, business ventures, investments and even organic farming, he has built an estimated net worth exceeding Rs 1,200 crore. Even in retirement, Dhoni remains one of India’s most influential and admired sporting figures, proving that some legends never truly step away from the game.
