When Dhurandhar hit theatres in December last year, it didn’t take long for the film to dominate conversations online. Directed by Aditya Dhar and led by Ranveer Singh, the film became a major box-office success. However, alongside praise and record-breaking numbers, one topic kept resurfacing on social media, the nearly 20-year age gap between Ranveer Singh and his co-star Sara Arjun. Months later, Sara has finally shared her perspective on the discussion that surrounded the film even before its release.
In a recent interview, Sara Arjun revealed that most of the online debate never reached her in the first place. She explained that she was largely disconnected from social media during the period leading up to the film’s release, which meant the trolling and opinions didn’t affect her personally. According to her, people are always entitled to their views but she prefers not to let external noise influence how she feels about her work. For her, what mattered the most was understanding the story and believing in the justification of her role within it.
Sara also shared that she continues to remain distant from the constant buzz of social media. She said that her parents often filter what reaches her, choosing to share positive feedback instead. At the time when the debates were at their peak, she was barely checking anything online, as most of it happened before the film even released.

The actress attributed this detachment to her upbringing and education. Having studied at a boarding school where access to devices was extremely limited, she never developed the habit of constantly scrolling or engaging online. Even after finishing school, her schedule became so busy that social media never became a priority. She admitted that she enjoys this aspect of her life, choosing to log in only when necessary or when she genuinely wants to share something. For leisure and relaxation, she prefers travelling and staying on the move rather than spending time online.
In Dhurandhar, Sara Arjun plays Yalina Jamali, the daughter of Pakistani politician Jameel Jamali, portrayed by Rakesh Bedi. The plot sees Ranveer Singh’s character manipulating events to make her fall in love with him, eventually leading to their marriage – an arc that sparked much of the age-gap debate.
Despite the controversy, Dhurandhar emerged as a massive success. The film became the biggest movie of 2025, earning widespread critical acclaim and breaking multiple box-office records. According to reports, it has collected Rs 1283.5 crore worldwide by Day 45, with Rs 989.9 crore coming from India and Rs 293.6 crore from overseas markets. While discussions continue online, the film’s impact, both culturally and commercially, remains undeniable.
