Arijit Singh has long been more than just a singer. Known for his soulful voice, grounded personality and deep connection with his roots, he has shaped modern Bollywood music while staying away from glamour. That same simplicity now seems to guide the next chapter of his life.

Fans were left stunned recently when Arijit Singh announced that he was retiring from playback singing. The news triggered an emotional response across the country, with listeners struggling to imagine Hindi cinema without his voice. Now, fresh reports suggest that the singer may not be stepping away from public life entirely but instead preparing for a very different role.
According to a report by a leading news channel, Arijit Singh is considering entering politics. The report claims that he is exploring the idea of launching a political party and may even contest elections in the future. A Bengali film industry insider revealed that Arijit could begin his political journey at the grassroots level, focusing on ground work before formally announcing a party. As per the same source, he is unlikely to contest the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections immediately.
Arijit Singh, who hails from Jiaganj in Murshidabad, West Bengal, has not made any official statement regarding these political reports so far. However, the speculation has gained traction, especially in light of his recent decision to step back from singing.
The singer shocked fans on Tuesday evening when he announced that he would no longer take up new assignments as a playback vocalist. Sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram, Arijit wrote, “Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”
Over the years, Arijit Singh has given Bollywood some of its most unforgettable songs, including Tum Hi Ho, Channa Mereya, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Raabta, Kesariya, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Tera Yaar Hoon Main and Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage. He was also set to appear in Hum To Tere Hi Liye The from Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming O Romeo. His most recent release, Ghar Kab Aaoge from Border 2, now feels like a quiet farewell.
Whether music or politics, Arijit Singh’s choices continue to spark emotion, curiosity and conversation.
