Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently shared his thoughts on the decision. According to him, Arijit Singh may have become tired of being offered similar kinds of songs again and again, especially emotional heartbreak tracks. Anurag explained that while Arijit is widely known for such songs, his talent goes far beyond that image.

He pointed out that Arijit Singh composed music for Sanya Malhotra’s film Pagglait, showing a different side of his creativity. Anurag Kashyap also described him as someone deeply connected to his roots, saying the singer quietly contributes to and takes care of his hometown. He added that Arijit is a private person who prefers working on his own terms and does not want to feel boxed into one style of music.

Talking about Arijit Singh’s artistic mindset, Anurag Kashyap said that true musicians create from the heart. If given freedom, they can surprise everyone with something new. But when they are repeatedly asked to deliver the same formula, they may begin to feel restricted and unable to explore their full potential.

Arijit Singh made his announcement on January 27 through a note shared on Instagram. In his message, he thanked fans for their love and support over the years and said he would not be accepting any new playback projects. He described it as a beautiful journey and expressed gratitude to listeners who stood by him.

Arijit Singh’s musical journey began in 2005 when he appeared on the reality show Fame Gurukul. His Bollywood breakthrough came with “Phir Mohabbat” from Murder 2. However, it was “Tum Hi Ho” from Aashiqui 2 that made him a household name and one of the most sought-after voices in the industry.

Over the years, he delivered a string of memorable songs such as “Channa Mereya,” “Agar Tum Saath Ho,” “Raabta,” “Kesariya,” “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,” “Tera Yaar Hoon Main,” “Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage,” and “Hum To Tere Hi Liye The” from Vishal Bhardwaj’s O Romeo.

For now, Arijit Singh may be stepping away from playback singing but if Anurag Kashyap’s words are anything to go by, this could simply be the beginning of a new creative chapter.
