Suryakumar Yadav Not Happy Despite India’s 72-Run Dominant Win Over Zimbabwe, Here’s Why

When the pressure was at its highest, the young Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh rose to the occasion. In a must-win Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026, the left-arm pacer produced a match-winning spell against Zimbabwe, helping India seal a dominant 72-run victory. Defending a massive total, India restricted Zimbabwe to 184/6 in 20 overs and Arshdeep was at the heart of it with figures of 3/24 in his four overs.

But this wasn’t just another good performance. In Chennai, Arshdeep achieved something special. He went past Jasprit Bumrah to become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. Jasprit Bumrah previously held the record with 33 wickets but Arshdeep Singh now leads the chart with 35 wickets from just 19 innings. What makes it even more impressive is his consistency, he averages 14.25 and maintains an economy rate of 7.33 in the tournament.

The 27-year-old has also been among India’s standout bowlers in this edition. He is currently the second highest wicket-taker for India in the ongoing tournament, with eight wickets from five innings at an average of 16 and an economy of 7.11.

Against Zimbabwe, Arshdeep Singh started confidently with the new ball, conceding just four runs in his opening over. Though he went for nine in his second, he returned strongly in the death overs. In the 17th over, he struck his first blow by dismissing Sikandar Raza, who had scored 31 off 21 balls and was caught at long-on. Soon after, he trapped Ryan Burl lbw for a two-ball duck. To complete a fine spell, Arshdeep bowled Tony Munyonga for 11 off six balls in his final over, finishing with three crucial wickets.

Abhishek Sharma finally found his rhythm, scoring his first half-century of the tournament, a fluent 55 off 30 balls. Hardik Pandya (50* off 23) and Tilak Varma (44* off 16) then powered India to a huge total with an explosive 81-run partnership off just 31 deliveries.
