While the franchise has not officially confirmed that they will host their home matches for the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League at Chinnaswamy, fans are convinced this was a clear hint. Many believe the post signals the return of top-level cricket to the Bengaluru stadium.
The excitement comes months after a heartbreaking incident. On June 4, 2025, a day after RCB celebrated their maiden IPL title, a stampede near MG Road and Cubbon Road claimed 11 lives. Around 2.5 lakh fans had gathered after the team announced a victory parade from Vidhana Soudha and a fan engagement event at the stadium.
Following the tragedy, the venue was declared unsafe and did not host any competitive cricket matches. Even major events like fixtures of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup were shifted at the last moment.
However, there was positive news earlier this year. On February 12, 2026, the Karnataka government granted permission for IPL matches to be held at Chinnaswamy Stadium during the 2026 season.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar posted on X: “In the interest of the sport and its fans, the Cabinet today has taken an important decision to permit the conduct of IPL matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, while keeping public safety paramount.”
“The recommendations of the Justice John Michael D’Cunha Report will be implemented, with strict adherence to norms on ticketing, crowd regulation, and stadium access. With responsibility and accountability, we move forward.”
So, are you excited?
