Some victories are written on the scoreboard, others are written in the heart. For Sanju Samson, India’s triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 was both personal and unforgettable. The wicketkeeper-batter played a crucial role in helping India lift the trophy and successfully defend their title, delivering when the team needed him the most.
The 31-year-old cricketer from Kerala featured in five matches for Suryakumar Yadav-led side and piled up 321 runs, powered by three stunning half-centuries. His calmness under pressure and fearless strokeplay stood out in high-stakes games.
Sanju Samson first made headlines with a blazing unbeaten 97 off 50 balls against the West Indies in the Super 8s. He followed it up with a classy 89 off 42 balls against England in the second semifinal at Wankhede Stadium. When it mattered the most, he delivered again, another fluent 89 off 46 balls against New Zealand in the final on March 8 at Narendra Modi Stadium. Three must-win matches, three defining innings.
For his match-winning performances with the bat, Sanju Samson was named the Player of the Tournament, a fitting reward for his consistency and composure.
A day after India became the first team ever to defend a T20 World Cup title, Sanju Samson shared a heartfelt moment off the field. He took to Instagram and posted pictures with his wife Charulatha Remesh along with an emotional note, thanking her for constant support through every phase of his life and career.
Sanju Samson captioned the post as,
“Right from the day I met you,,till this day of my life…!! Sanju Samson’s fairytale tournament was also historic from a records standpoint. He finished with 321 runs, the most by an Indian batter in a single T20 World Cup edition. The previous record belonged to Virat Kohli who scored 319 runs in six matches during the 2014 tournament.
The power-hitter also cleared the ropes with remarkable consistency. His tally of 24 sixes became the highest by any batter in a single edition of the men’s T20 World Cup, underlining the fearless approach that defined his campaign.

For Sanju Samson, it wasn’t just a tournament filled with runs and records, it was a journey of big moments, bigger emotions and the quiet strength of someone standing beside him through it all.
