The celebrations may have slowed down but the emotions are still fresh. Leading India to a historic world title is the kind of achievement that takes time to truly sink in and that’s exactly where Suryakumar Yadav finds himself right now.

Suryakumar Yadav has begun to absorb the scale of what he and his team have achieved. With India lifting their third T20 World Cup trophy in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Surya’s name is now spoken alongside some of the greatest captains in the Indian cricket history.
Soon after returning from Ahmedabad, the Indian skipper looked back at the victorious campaign and spoke about the road ahead. He shared how winning back-to-back T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026 felt incredibly special, especially after the team had dreamed of repeating the success at home. Doing it in front of Indian fans made the moment even more memorable for the players.

Suryakumar Yadav said the team is now focused on an even bigger goal, bringing home an Olympic gold medal in 2028. With strong momentum and confidence in the squad, he believes India has a real chance to achieve something historic. He also pointed out that another T20 World Cup will be played in the same year and winning that too would complete a remarkable hat trick of titles.
Speaking about comparisons with legendary captains, Surya admitted it feels special to be mentioned among such iconic names. He said he is slowly processing the honour and hopes to live up to expectations by helping India win many more trophies in the future.
With this triumph, Suryakumar Yadav joins an elite group that includes Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, all captains who guided India to the ICC titles.

Kapil Dev led India to their first ever global triumph at the 1983 ODI World Cup. Dhoni captained the team to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Rohit Sharma ended India’s ICC trophy drought with the T20 World Cup win in Barbados in June 2024.
Now, Suryakumar Yadav stands proudly among them, with bigger dreams still ahead.
