The Australian all-rounder made headlines after becoming the most expensive overseas signing in the IPL history, bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a massive ₹25.2 crore. Naturally, expectations were sky-high but in KKR’s match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, something unusual happened, Cameron Green didn’t bowl even a single over.
KKR ended up losing the match despite posting a strong total of 220/4, which Mumbai chased down in just 19.1 overs with six wickets in hand. After the game, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked the obvious question: why didn’t their star all-rounder bowl? His response hinted that the decision wasn’t entirely in the team’s control, suggesting that this question should be answered by the Cricket Australia.
Soon after, the Cricket Australia clarified the situation. They revealed that Cameron Green is dealing with a lower back injury and has been advised to temporarily avoid bowling. The plan is for him to gradually rebuild his bowling workload in India and potentially return to full fitness in about 10–12 days. Importantly, KKR were already aware of this condition before the match.
In his debut for KKR, Cameron Green batted at number three and scored a quick 18 runs off 10 balls before getting out. Interestingly, even during Australia’s 2026 T20 World Cup campaign, he didn’t bowl, and later in the Sheffield Shield, he played purely as a batter.
During the match, KKR relied on six other bowlers including Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kartik Tyagi, Blessing Muzarabani, Sunil Narine and Anukul Roy but none could stop Mumbai’s aggressive chase.
For now, fans will have to wait a little longer to see the “all-rounder” version of Cameron Green in action.
